GOP Executive Councilor Opposes N.H. Income Tax Ban

[Bumped. When Jeb Bush publicly rejects Grover Norton’s anti-tax pledge and a New Hampshire Republican councilor opposes an income tax ban, you know the public mood is changing.]

GOP Executive Councilor Ray Burton warns that the House scandals and controversies are “going to have an impact in November” and “it isn’t going to help Republicans.”

Burton also said he is opposed to a constitutional amendment that will be on the ballot to ban an income tax in New Hampshire, and said its passage is no sure thing.

Burton called it a “slippery slope” and said banning an income tax “ties the hands of those budget committees in the Legislature, and every legislator.”

“Over the years, the voters in a general election are pretty careful about tinkering with the constitution of the state of New Hampshire,” he added.
