Think Progress picked up the story from the State House in which GOP Rep. Dan Dumaine argued for why guns should not be banned from the House floor and gallery.
"A holstered gun is not a deadly weapon," he declared. “A credit card is. A credit card can be used to slit somebody’s throat.”
Here’s a sampling of the response from Think Progress readers:
When credit cards are outlawed only outlaws will have credit cards.
It’s not the credit cards that are dangerous. It’s the culture of credit card violence that the media and Hollywood perpetuate.
Has this guy even TRIED to cut something with a credit card? It would be easier to strangle your victim with yarn or dental floss.
What the hell’s the matter with these people and their ridiculous analogies? Yes, a credit card can be used to cut someone’s throat, it can’t be used to kill 30 people within 60 seconds. …
Reductio ad absurdum. Reducing an argument to its most absurd conclusion. You can kill a person with a gun, and. you can kill a person with most anything, therefore. a gun is the same as anything.
If you drop your credit card on the floor, it’s not likely to discharge by accident and hurt someone
Now a credit card can be used as a deadly weapon to slice someone’s throat? What kind of movies is this guy watching anyway? Because I’m pretty sure even Quentin Tarantino would have a hard time making THAT look plausible.
Seriously? This is the best they can come up with?
Next they’ll argue EBT card users are killing America with their cards. Wait, right-wingers already are sort of doing that, aren’t they?
Aw, Jeez! Kill someone with a credit card? Nope, don’t believe it. Now, if they were to say that someone could get killed with a tea cup or an old key from a can of Spam, well then I’d be worried.
….THEN you can take this Mastercard out of my cold dead hands….
What’s in YOUR wallet?
