Guinta’s Debt Ceiling Vote Called Act of Terrorism

Rep. Frank Guinta today announced he will vote against the request to increase the debt ceiling.

“Today I’m announcing that I will vote against the clean debt ceiling increase bill expected to come up in the House next week. … This is the time to draw the line in the sand. I will vote ‘no’ on giving the government yet another blank check. I will only consider raising the debt ceiling in another bill later on if —and only if— it contains significant cuts in federal spending and meaningful budgetary reforms. Otherwise, I will vote ‘no’ again. ”

Paul O’Neill, Treasury Secretary under Pres. George W. Bush, notes the catastrophic damage not raising the debt ceiling would have on the U.S. economy and likens those playing politics with the issue to terrorists.

The people who are threatening not to pass the debt ceiling are our version of Al-Qaeda terrorists. Really. They’re really putting our whole society at risk by threatening to round up 50 percent of the members of the Congress, who are looney, who would put our credit at risk.
