A study by the Chronicle of Higher Education finds New Hampshire has the least educated state legislators in the country. Just 53% of Granite State lawmakers have a four year college degree. Nationally, the study found 75% of state legislators have a bachelor’s degree or higher. California has the most educated legislators in the country with 90% having a degree from a four year college.
There is one caveat. Because of New Hampshire’s unusually large, part-time legislature, the authors caution they were unable to determine the educational attainments of “an inordinate number” of the state’s lawmakers.
